About Charlotte
Charlotte's passion is cultivating a love of music through teaching and performing. She began teaching private clarinet lessons in 1979 and currently teaches in the Monterey Bay Area. She has taught clarinet and chamber music in her private studios in Silicon Valley as well as at Saratoga Music and Dance, Santa Catalina School in Monterey, and the Silicon Valley Youth Conservatory at SJSU. She has taught band, keyboard, choir, general music, and social studies in schools.
Charlotte enjoys performing and sharing music with others. Locally, she has performed at Munching with Mozart and other Music Teachers' Association events such as the Ensemble-a-thon and with Monterey Pops. Over the years, Charlotte has played as a free-lance musician with numerous groups and pick-up orchestras in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has co-founded several ensembles, most notably the Klarinet Kapers, which presented formal concerts and appeared at diverse locales in the community for over 15 years. Charlotte performs solo recitals and has appeared as soloist with the Ohlone Wind Orchestra, Saratoga High Wind Ensemble, and the San Jose Clarinet Choir.
Charlotte received her Master of Arts in Music and Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential from San Jose State, where she studied with Mark Brandenberg and Janet Averett. She pursued five years of advanced clarinet study with Rosario Mazzeo of the Boston Symphony. A life long learner, Charlotte continues to study and has performed in masterclasses with Peter Simenauer (New York Philharmonic), Fred Ormand (University of Michigan), William McColl (University of Washington) and David Erkhe (University of Nevada, Reno)
Charlotte is interested in the "art" of teaching and enjoys finding new ways to help her students learn in a positive environment. Her non-musical interests would take pages to list but include being a homeschool mom, swimming, art, reading, and gardening.
